Harbor

2024
Harbor is a modular home goods concept centered around giving discarded pallet wood a second life. The project began by investigating the environmental impact of the pallet industry and identifying an opportunity to transform a material with a short functional lifespan into products people would value and keep for years. Rather than hiding the material's imperfections, the goal was to celebrate its character while creating a system that was both beautiful and practical.
 
The project included developing a repeatable process for reclaiming pallet wood, from sourcing and material preparation to finishing and fabrication. After many rounds of concept generation, consumer interviews, surveys, and iterative prototyping, I designed a modular shelving system that could adapt to different spaces while highlighting the story behind the material. The final result combines thoughtful, user-centered design with sustainable manufacturing practices, demonstrating how upcycled materials can become desirable, long-lasting products rather than waste.
